Success Isn’t Original, It’s Optimized
Across professional sports, there is no shortage of ideas for ticket packages, plans, theme nights and promotions. The challenge isn’t always inventing something new, it’s recognizing an idea with potential and asking how it could work for your market, venue and fans.
The Savannah Bananas have made the experience bigger than the game itself. At their home stadium, admission includes food, while Banana Ball keeps fans engaged throughout the show. The Charleston RiverDogs have taken a different approach to making a night at the ballpark feel distinctive: their Live and Local Tuesdays featured Charleston restaurant pop-ups, local musicians and guest announcers. Each offer gives fans a reason to come for more than a seat.
Theme nights offer another opportunity to build on a familiar concept. For their 2026 Star Wars Night, the Milwaukee Brewers paired a themed ticket package and exclusive Grogu bobblehead with a postgame laser show. The theme was recognizable; the complete experience made the ticket offer specific.
Plans can benefit from the same thinking. The Sacramento Kings’ Kings Pass offers access to dozens of games through a monthly subscription, giving fans another way to attend beyond a traditional ticket plan.
And ideas can cross sports. The San Francisco Giants offered a Hello Kitty ticket package with a collectible bobblehead in 2014. The Kings have since featured Hello Kitty at a game with themed giveaways and meet-and-greet opportunities tied to select ticket packages. The shared theme gives each team room to create its own fan experience.
The takeaway? Great ticketing ideas don’t need to be born in your own front office. The most effective teams are scouts as much as they are sellers, on the lookout for what’s working elsewhere, and asking one key question: "How can we make this work for our team and market?"
In today’s data-rich, digitally connected landscape, the playbook is open. Success isn’t about being the first, it's about being the smartest at making it fit your fans.
